Food Festival

The Food Festival was organised as an assignment for Second Year First Semester students of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce – University of Jaffna – Sri Lanka in conjunction with their subject of BBAT – 21013 Events Management. The main objective of this food festival is to gain practical experiences in organizing event by the students who are studying Events Management while observing how they are practising their acquired knowledge and skills to organize this event. All second year first semester students (440 students) were divided into eleven groups and assigned duties and responsibilities for each group to organize this event. Four outlets were set – up under themes such as Sinhala traditional foods, Tamil traditional foods, Western foods and Beverages. This event was inaugurated by Prof. Srisatkunarajah Vice – Chancellor/ University of Jaffna – Sri Lanka jointly with Prof.Sivesan Sivanandamoorthy, programme Head/ Tourism and Hospitality Management and Senior Professor. B. Nimalathasan – Dean/ Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at 9.30 am. There many students and invitees including Director and staff of the Northern Province Tourism Bureau, President and Secretary of Northern Hotel Association, media persons and members of the public also took part in this event. Finally, this event, which created a platform for students to build up relationships and unity among students and showcase their creative and Food Festival – Report innovative skills, showed students’ capacity in event planning, both pre – and post – organizing events, and marketing and promotion skills. This event was self-financed. It was useful to learn entrepreneurial skills and risk taking.
