As an author, you play a critical role in ensuring the scholarly integrity of our journal. Your responsibilities extend beyond manuscript preparation and submission. JBS expects all contributing authors to:
Engage Promptly: Respond in a timely and professional manner to editorial or reviewer queries during the peer review and post-acceptance phases.
Take Responsibility: Accept full responsibility for the accuracy, reliability, and ethical standing of the research submitted.
Maintain Confidentiality: Treat correspondence with the editorial team as private and confidential until a formal decision is made.
Adhere to Authorship Criteria: Ensure all contributors who made significant intellectual contributions are listed as authors. Avoid listing individuals who did not contribute meaningfully to the manuscript or who chose not to be associated with the work.
Generative AI Disclosure: Generative AI must not be used to produce the primary intellectual contributions of a manuscript—such as the abstract, literature review, methodology, or data analysis. If generative AI tools are employed for auxiliary purposes (e.g., language refinement or formatting), their use must be explicitly acknowledged, and any AI-generated outputs should be cited appropriately to maintain academic transparency and integrity.
Research Ethics for Human Participants: Consent, Protection, and Responsibility
For studies involving human participants, adherence to ethical research standards is essential to ensure the dignity, rights, safety, and well-being of all individuals involved. Authors must address the following key considerations when preparing their manuscripts:
Assess Ethical Requirements: Authors bear full responsibility for identifying and addressing the ethical considerations relevant to their study. Manuscripts should include a clear declaration that ethical aspects have been thoroughly evaluated and are in compliance with both national and international ethical guidelines. This applies to all studies involving human participants—whether through surveys, interviews, focus groups, experiments, or any other form of interaction.
Informed Consent Process: Ensure that all participants voluntarily agree to take part in the study after being fully informed of:
- The purpose and procedures of the research;
- Any potential risks or discomforts involved;
- Their right to withdraw at any time without penalty;
- How their data will be used, stored, and protected;
- Measures taken to ensure anonymity or confidentiality.
Vulnerable Populations: Special care should be taken when conducting research involving vulnerable populations (e.g., minors, individuals with cognitive impairments), with additional safeguards to protect their rights and well-being.
Responsible Use of Generative AI Tools
JBS aligns with global best practices and provides the following guidance on the use of AI in scholarly work:
- Authors may use AI tools to improve grammar, spelling, and readability, provided that the content is originally created by the author.
- Using AI tools to generate core scholarly content (e.g., writing literature reviews, generating results or statistics, or producing images) is not allowed. Reporting AI-generated data as authentic findings or statistics breaches publication ethics.
- Where generative AI is cited for critique or illustration, it must be clearly labeled and referenced in the text in accordance with journal formatting guidelines.
Academic Integrity and Publishing Ethics
JBS upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and publishing ethics. We are committed to disseminating original, methodologically sound, and ethically responsible research that contributes meaningfully to the academic and professional communities. As part of our ethical publishing framework, authors submitting manuscripts to JBS are expected to adhere to the following principles:
Originality of Manuscripts: All submissions must be the authors’ own original work and should not have been published previously in any form—either in print or electronically—nor be under simultaneous review by another journal or publication outlet. Manuscripts that are found to contain plagiarized content or duplicate publication will be rejected outright, and appropriate action may be taken in line with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.
Declaration of Conflicts of Interest: Authors are required to disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest—financial, institutional, or personal—that may be perceived to influence the objectivity, integrity, or outcomes of the research. Transparency in this regard ensures that all stakeholders, including readers and reviewers, can fairly evaluate the work presented.
Copyright Compliance: By submitting a manuscript to JBS, authors confirm that the work does not infringe upon any existing copyrights, intellectual property rights, or legal entitlements of third parties. It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure that all permissions have been obtained for the use of any third-party materials, including text, tables, figures, or datasets.
Use of Non-Public or Proprietary Data: In cases where the research relies on private organizational data or other forms of non-public information, authors must obtain explicit, formal written consent from the relevant organizational or legal authorities. This consent must be documented and, if requested, submitted to the editorial board for verification. Failure to do so may result in the manuscript’s rejection or retraction post-publication.
