Established in 1999, the FMSC has been a cornerstone of excellence in education, shaping leaders in the fields of management and commerce.
As the FMSC at the University of Jaffna enters its Silver Jubilee year, it’s a time to reflect on the remarkable achievements and contributions made by alumni, faculty, and staff. Over the past 25 years, FMSC has stood at the forefront of delivering exceptional education, fostering innovation, and empowering generations of students to pursue their dreams.
The FMSC’s rich history dates back to 1977 when it first commenced the Bachelor of Commerce degree program under the Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts. Over the years, the department evolved, eventually leading to the establishment of the Department of Commerce and Management Studies in 1986. In 1994, the department underwent further development, giving rise to the Department of Commerce and the Department of Management Studies.
In 1999, the FMSC was officially established as the fifth faculty of the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka comprising the Departments of Commerce and Management Studies. Initially offering specialised programs such as Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business Administration, the FMSC underwent significant restructuring in 2009, leading to the establishment of new departments like Accounting, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, and Marketing.
The alumni network of the FMSC is a testament to the success and impact of the institution.
